EVENT: AgriCULTURE! Symposium, the University of the Fraser Valley Food and Agriculture Institute in Collaboration with Tourism Abbotsford and Dr. Michelle Superle’s 20 Harvest Challenge
WHO: Facilitator + host: Dr. Michelle Superle; Panelists: representatives from Abbotsford’s culturally diverse array of agriculture and food culture groups.
WHAT: The AgriCULTURE! Symposium is an interactive panel discussion for exploring how connections between culture and agriculture take shape in Abbotsford. After the panel discussion, attendees are welcome to remain on campus to enjoy a number of additional Symposium components, including exploration of Dr. Superle’s Food Museum, a scavenger hunt, and more.

WHY: During this event, attendees will be immersed in one of the core principles at play in the world of food and farming: “Cultural identity and sense of place are often closely tied to landscapes and food systems”—a principle so crucial that it’s enshrined in the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s principles and policies.* Abbotsford food and farming folks who help bring you delicious things to eat will share their perspectives on this element of human life that we all experience daily—often without thinking about or even realizing it.
