CityStudio HUBBUB Project Showcase

A joint event with CityStudio Chilliwack launched in 2021, will showcase the project work of five academic courses working on 6 civic challenges. The students from the Arts, Science, and Health Sciences will have a chance to share their findings with their peers, faculty, and City staff. The highlights include a creative portrayal of Hidden Career Stories within the civil service as presented by the Graphic and Digital Design Students, who had a unique chance to visit Abbotsford City Hall as part of their CityStudio experience, and interview City staff. They learned firsthand about the career trajectories and the impact that civic employees make in the community. Another class reflected on what does a community filled with rich and diverse cultural experiences look and feel like, and what does a community of connected people and neighborhoods look and feel like? A cultural theme runs through UFV’s Nursing students project which focuses on the role that culture plays in community development. In particular, the group examines access to culture among marginalized populations. The second group of Nursing students is working on the Chilliwack-based project conducting a youth-centered community health diagnosis. The emergent theme within the Chilliwack CityStudio – “Chilliwack in Focus” includes a Geography class’ project that measures demographic changes in the community over time in relation to population mobility. Finally, CityStudio Abbotsford students will showcase their analysis of infill housing throughout BC that affects communities across the province.

The City of Abbotsford and UFV’s Centre for Experiential and Career Education will host their career information tables at the event, and all students are welcome to bring their resumes to consult with career professionals.
