The Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies is working towards establishing a Makerspace at the Trades & Technology Centre (TTC) to serve the Chilliwack area. If you are not familiar with the Makerspace movement, a quick web search will have you enthused and motivated to want to become engaged with community members of all ages and kinds, inventing, creating and bringing their ideas to physical reality. They do so with the help and support of technical expertise and the incredible equipment and tools we have available at TTC.
On Sept 19 at 3 pm, the Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies is hosting a Makermeet. This is an opportunity to learn more about our plans and see how you might shape the initiative. Get involved, learn about the capabilities of TTC, and meet creative people who are leading this movement. Join community members from all over the lower mainland. We’ll host a small barbecue and enjoy a good discussion about where this idea can go.
Stay connected for information about summer camps and a series of weekend open access events at TTC that engage inventive minds who want to create and build things with the help of mentors and our amazing machinery and tools. Working with Dereck Dirom of GearBots Educational Resources, we will soon begin offering a series of evening events that introduce young people to robotics construction and code writing.
