Helena Paul of the Stó:lō Nation will speak about the power of youth movements from around the world. She is accompanied by performance group, The Spirit of Our Communities (SOC).
Helena is the Stó:lō Nation Community Engagement Hub Coordinator. She has been involved with indigenous youth for 12 years. She has worked in the school district, and also as a Qwi:qwelstom-Youth Justice Worker, Coordinator of the Stó:lō Youth Council, and Stehiyaq-Aboriginal Residential facility for female youth. Currently, as the Hub Coordinator, she collaborates with other Hubs in the region to provide annual events for youth, such as the Youth Empowerment Gathering. She advocates for the Spirit of Our Communities group and sits on the Aboriginal Youth Cultural Enhancement Committee. She is currently completing a Bachelor degree with a major in Sociology and a minor in Political Science at UFV.
SOC is a group of youth from various First Nations communities in the Fraser Valley. They are a youth-led, culturally vibrant group of young people and they will present a series of cultural performances not to be missed!
Games and prizes will be included.
