Conference, Exhibition, and Performance
October 22–24, 2015
Great Hall, Student Union Building, Abbotsford campus
Free event (Registration opens at 9:45 am)
In this multidisciplinary commemorative conference, we aim to showcase the role of soldiers and others from undivided India and examine history and cultural representations of India and the Great War. Papers and exhibition focus on history, literature, film, folklore, photography, art, architecture, and criticism that explore different contexts, perspectives, texts, and subtexts, objects, archives and artifacts of memory, memorialization, and commemoration. Some of the questions that the conference seeks to interrogate will draw attention to remembrance, and more importantly, the sudden, but much needed, surge of attention towards the almost forgotten contribution of Indian soldiers, especially in the virtual world.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Amritjit Singh (Ohio University)
Langston Hughes Professor of English and African American Studies
