Installation Ceremony of Chancellor Dr. Gwen Point

The formal installation ceremony of Dr. Gwen Point as Chancellor of the University of the Fraser Valley happens on Wed, Feb 4 at the Chilliwack campus at Canada Education Park.

UFV will also be recognizing Dr. Brian Minter at the ceremony for his years of service and contributions as past Chancellor.

The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of the university, presiding over convocation and conferring UFV credentials. As a representative of the public interest at the university, the Chancellor also acts as an ambassador for UFV and is called upon to represent the institution at major events.

The role of the Chancellor is voluntary and is served in three-year terms. The ideal Chancellor for UFV is a person of distinction in the Fraser Valley community who has an understanding and appreciation of the importance of post-secondary education.

Dr. Gwen Point holds a BEd from UBC, an MEd from the University of Portland, and an honorary doctorate from UVic. Her connections to our University stretch back decades. She’s been a student, a member of the Board of Governors, a faculty member, and an Aboriginal Curriculum Coordinator, to name just a few of her roles. Dr. Point has also held a number of provincial government and regional posts supporting education, child and family services, and First Nations communities. She is a respected Stó:lõ leader, mentor, and cultural advisor who has contributed her cultural knowledge and experience to numerous books, conferences, workshops, and communities, and earned many accolades and awards. Her ceremonial experience as BC’s Chatelaine for five years (as spouse of the Lieutenant Governor) will serve her well in this role.
