Komagata Maru: Challenging Injustice: Conversations for Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
The South Asian Studies Institute at the University of the Fraser Valley launches a permanent outdoor exhibit on April 14th at the Sikh Heritage Museum located in the National Historic Site Gur Sikh Temple, Abbotsford BC.
As part of a month long events by Sikh Heritage Month, BC, the exhibit, titled “Komagata Maru: Discrimination Meets Determination” pays homage to historic 1914 and to the power of determination to enact meaningful change by Sikh and South Asian would be immigrants with the threaded connections to ongoing legacies of racism.
The virtual launch will feature descendants of the passengers of the Komagata Maru, poetry and vivid conversations on the ongoing relevance of this watershed moment in Canadian history.
