UFV’s Literary Café at Harrison Festival of the Arts
Going local with ‘UFV’s own’
Monday, July 14 at 7:30pm
Memorial Hall
This year the Literary Café is going local, focusing on writers directly associated with the University of the Fraser Valley. Faculty, staff, and student writers, including several published authors, will be presenting a rich variety of stories and poems. Featured writers include Andrea McPherson, Daniela Elza, John Carroll, Rajnish Dhawan, Katie Stobbart, Michelle Rickaby, and Michelle Vandepol.
The evening will also include music by three exceptional musical improvisers: Jared Burrows (guitar), Rob Kholer (bass) and Clyde Reed (bass). These musicians are well-known in Vancouver and beyond as leaders in the world of jazz improvisation. Jared is the head of jazz at Capilano Community College, is a music curator and works in a huge variety of ensembles in jazz, new music, and world music settings; Clyde’s bass playing has been featured on over 30 recordings and he has collaborated with many of the leading figures in improvised music; Rob, now living in Los Angeles, has performed jazz, classical, and pop music all over the world. They will perform three short sets through out the night as well as collaboratively with a few readings.
UFV, which is celebrating 40 years in 2014, has worked in partnership with the Harrison Festival since 1978, and presented the Literary Café since 1999. See blog http://blogs.ufv.ca/blog/2014/07/ufvs-featured-literary-cafe-harrison-festival-arts/
