Fifth MAD MONDAY Challenge:
Mindfulness Challenge
The College of Arts is thrilled to announce a pilot project called the Student Experience Design Lab (SXD Lab). Supported by UFV’s Fund for Innovative Teaching, the SXD Lab is developing real-life student-led learning opportunities with a focus on innovation, career development, creativity and collaboration.
The first learning opportunity to come out of the SXD Lab is a series of MAD MONDAY Challenges.
What is a MAD MONDAY Challenge?
In interdisciplinary teams of four, students will develop and present a solution to a specific challenge in less than seven hours. The winning team will be awarded a grand prize valued at $500 and a Letter of Recommendation from the Associate Dean of Students (Dr. Linda Pardy). In addition, each participant will receive a $100 honorarium.
For these challenges, we are seeking student leaders who are action-oriented and well organized.
Please submit your team nominations to Elise Goertz (Internship and Practicum Coordinator) in the College of Arts, Deans’ Office via email: elise.goertz@ufv.ca.
MAD MONDAY Challenge – Mindfulness Challenge
For this Mad Monday Challenge, student teams will be asked to submit a Mindfulness project & event proposal. It must include strategies to promote experiential mindfulness activities on-campus to help UFV students directly experience the benefits of mindfulness in their mind and body.
Typical benefits include:
1. Reducing overall stress and anxiety and increasing well-being
2. Improving focus for assignments and tests
3. Enhancing creativity to think of new ideas and try new things
4. Improving listening and communication skills for classes, presentations and relationships
5. Increasing emotional resilience to better handle the roller coaster moments of life
Participants will start the challenge by attending an one-hour Mindfulness presentation where they will learn about the applications of mindfulness through direct experience.
After the presentation participants will be asked the following:
1. Do you feel better or worse after experiencing mindfulness?
2. Do you feel that it is important for students to experience mindfulness?
Students will then have approximately 5 hours to put together their Mindfulness project & event proposal. Within this proposal, student teams must address:

o Mindfulness and student reliance: what is the link?
The promotion of Mindfulness on campus
