Paper Tigers – Movie Screening
In collaboration with partners at MCFD and School District 34, the Child, Youth & Family Studies Department at the University of the Fraser Valley is hosting a free community screening of the documentary movie PAPER TIGERS. This screening will take place on Tuesday December 6th, from 3-5:30pm, @ the University of the Fraser Valley Theatre (B101), Abbotsford
Paper Tigers follows a year in the life of youth at Lincoln High Alternative School in Walla Walla, Washington. The movie explores the impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and toxic stress on the students, and shows the trauma informed approach that created a turnaround in everything from the number of fights to test scores and graduation rates. The school has become a promising model of how to break the cycles of poverty, violence and disease that affect families through the practice of trauma-informed care. It is also a testament to what the latest research on childhood adversity is proving: that one caring adult can change the trajectory of a young person’s life.
