President’s Leadership Lecture Series – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
As we approach September 30, I am reminded that the work of Reconciliation is an ongoing process, and that responding to the calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission requires us to work together, moving forward in the spirit of lets’e ó sqwálewel (unity).
In this time of reflection and recommitment, I invite you to join me for a special President’s Leadership Lecture Series event.
Indigenization and Reconciliation at UFV: 1974 to 2074
Dr. Eric Davis, UFV Professor Emeritus
Dr. Shirley Swelchalot Hardman,
UFV Associate Vice-President, Xwexwílmexwawt
Friday, September 27, 2024 | 11:30am – 1:00pm
Evered Hall, Abbotsford Campus
Founded only two years after the release of the 1972 policy paper “Indian Control of Indian Education”, Fraser Valley College came into existence at a time when Indigenous peoples were imagining a system of education for their children based on their own culture and values. Dr. Eric Davis will present his research into the ways in which the Indigenization of education shaped our institution. Dr. Shirley Swelchalot Hardman will paint a vision of an Indigenized UFV in 2074 while reflecting on UFV’s successes to date and the work still to come.
Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP here by Monday, September 23
