Calling all History and Social Studies teachers
The UFV History department, in collaboration with UFV Teacher Education, is hosting a special professional development day for all History and Social Studies teachers and faculty members on February 19, 2016.
In addition to a keynote lecture that will present innovative ideas on how to develop historical thinking in your students throughout their educational journey, the day will include two breakout sessions to allow for interaction and reflection. View schedule.
Sessions offered will include:
- What does an historian do? – Chris Leach, UFV History Department Head – Session closed
- Students as researchers: connecting to problem/project-based learning – Scott Sheffield, UFV History Faculty Member
- Historical thinking in action – Stefan Stipp, Humanities Teacher, Innovative Learning Design Team Coordinator, Guildford Park Secondary School
- Incorporating and evaluating the use of historical fiction, film and new media in the classroom – Adrianna Bakos, UFV History Faculty Member and Larissa Horne, UFV History Faculty Member
- Assessing more than content: addressing those real challenges – Karen Saenger, Teacher and IB Coordinator at Abbotsford Senior and Lori Caviggia, Teacher and Social Studies Department Head at Abbotsford Senior
- Responsible indigenization – Lorna Andrews, UFV Director of Indigenous Student Centre, and Sheryl MacMath, UFV Teacher Education Department Head
