Provost Lunch and Learn Series: The Schedule of Classes: 2025 and Beyond
Presented by
David Johnston, University Registrar and AVP enrolment Management
Shannon Wilson, Manager, Academic Scheduling
In the Fall of 2024, the Strategic Enrolment Management Strategic Implementation Group (SEM-SIG) completed an extensive review of our scheduling blocks and meeting patterns in support of the SEM Plan goals to “Explore the requirements to develop a student-centered timetable” and “Establishing the framework for a student-centred timetable”. Based on this review the SEM Council has endorsed the changes for a Fall 2025 implementation.
The main changes are standardized starting times, establishing permissible meeting patterns, ensuring class hours are consistent with the Official Course Outline and expanding the definition of Hybrid instruction. While at first glance the changes may appear significant, a closer look shows that the new system is built on the foundation of the previous one, and most areas should be able to adapt with only modest adjustments.
This Lunch and Learn session will provide an overview of the changes and describe how they will impact the schedule of classes (aka the Timetable). This will be of interest to all academic units and those who support student registration. There will be training sessions for Departmental Coordinators and those closely involved with building Departmental and School schedules closer to opening the system for data entry.
Hope to see you online.
