THE HIDEOUT
Synopsis: What do two German soldiers in Nazi Germany have in common with two Jewish sisters? Hatred, perhaps, but that’s not the only thing. With their whole company now outmaneuvered by the progressing Allied Forces, Corp. Hofle and Pvt. Keppler resort to abandoning their post and finding refuge in house downtrodden with ruin, loss and desolation. But they are not the only ones there. They are not even the first ones there. The two Jewish sisters, Edith and Emma, hunkered down in this old house now share something more than just hate with these soldiers- the confines of their hideout. Rife with apprehension, the quartet confront, contend and commiserate, among themselves about their purpose, duty and fate. The play explores sentiments that bear resemblance to the 21st century anti-work movement, echoing the idea that freedom lies not just in resisting the work that goes against ones values but also in actively pursuing work that aligns with one’s heart.
In addition to the Spotlight Festival, The Hideout is also having an opening night performance on Friday December 1st at 6pm.
