In Fall 2019, the City of Chilliwack partnered with the University of the Fraser Valley in launching a collaborative pilot project in challenge-based Experiential Education.
The initiative is focused on prototyping innovative solutions for civic challenges facing the community, delivering hands-on learning experiences to UFV students, and strengthening ties between the City and the University. The pilot serves to become a precursor for the expansion of a CityStudio model across the Fraser Valley.
Focusing on important environmental issues such as the use of Single-Use-Items and the reduction and prevention of Illegal Dumping, students from Geography and Graphic and Digital Design classes worked closely with staff from the City’s Environmental Services department. Their projects were further informed by greater strategic goals of the City of Chilliwack and were supported by the Centre of Experiential and Career Education (CECE) at UFV.
The pilot project will culminate in a Student Showcase event on December 4th at the Chilliwack City Hall (8550 Young Road) between 9:00-10:30am.
Student posters featuring individual and teamwork will be displayed, as well as other prototype materials. The Student Showcase will bring together City staff, students and instructors to share project outcomes and ideas and to build and celebrate community connections.
