Sustainable food systems: East Africa, Punjab and the Fraser Valley
Will we have enough food for the future?
Increasing population degraded land resources and declining water supply are increasing the vulnerability of global food security. The University of the Fraser Valley in partnership with Aga Khan University East Africa Institute and Panjab University will be hosting a symposium to discuss sustainable food systems within the Fraser Valley, East Africa and Punjab, India.
Keynote speakers will be sharing their expertise on sustainable food systems that range from food distribution, resource use, policy and new innovations in production. There will be breakout sessions with the experts followed by a public symposium with international guests.
The speakers include:
- Alex Awiti from Aga Khan University in Nairobi,
- Dhian Kaur and B.S. Ghuman from Panjab University,
- James Khuns from Ryerson University,
- Lenore Newman (UFV),
- George Imbenzi Kenya Consulate Government and Trade,
- Orlando Schmidt (Regional Manager for Coast Region of BC Ministry of Agriculture).
Workshops will take place from 1-4 PM followed by the Public Symposium at 7 PM.
