UFV Security and Emergency Management hosts seismic risk seminar
A recent Community Risk Assessment commissioned by the City of Abbotsford indicates earthquakes pose a high risk to communities in the Fraser Valley.
Proximity to a seismically active region and the possibility of a Cascadia subduction zone earthquake, or “the big one” make this an important area for discussion and planning for the region.
Dr. Jonathan Hughes will present his and others’ current research on sources of seismic risk in the Fraser Valley.
Date: May 19, 2016
Location: Great Hall – middle section
Student Union Building (S Building) Abbotsford
Time: 1:30pm-3:00pm
Presentation: 45 mins
Networking and discussion: 45 mins
Dr. Hughes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and the Environment at the University of the Fraser Valley. Dr. Hughes’ research program is focussed on better understanding natural hazards and past environmental change. He received his PhD in 2002 from Simon Fraser University.
