While Canada is in the midst of a national election campaign, the provincial election agency, Elections BC, is preparing for the next provincial general election, scheduled for May 2017.
One of the groups of interest to Elections BC is young voters, aged 18 to 25, and 26 to 35. People in both these age groups are less likely to be registered to vote, and are less likely to vote, than older voters.
Elections BC is working with six post-secondary universities in BC— including UFV— to develop strategies for the 2017 general election that encourage young voters to register and to vote, and at UFV a special topics applied multi-disciplinary course anticipated for offering for the Winter 2016 semester is currently in development.
In the interim, Keith Archer, the Chief Electoral Officer of B.C., will be giving a lecture event on youth and electoral politics at 2:30pm on September 16 in room B101 (Lecture Theatre), Abbotsford. All are welcome to attend this free event.
