To promote and raise awareness of the Global Accessibility Awareness Day, May 19,2022, the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), and the Centre for Accessibility Services (CAS) are hosting an online event featuring keynote presenters, workshops, and other relevant sessions to showcase and learn about accessibility.
KEYNOTES:
Joy Elan is an award winning author and spoken word artist from Oakland and Berkeley, CA. She uses her writing to advocate for civil rights for Blacks/people of color, women, and people with disabilities. With her poetry and novels, she speaks about social issues that affect people from locally to globally.
Joy received her BA degree in African American Studies at UC Berkeley and her MA degree in Education at Stanford University.

Jay Dolmage is committed to disability rights in my scholarship, service, and teaching. My work brings together rhetoric, writing, disability studies, and critical pedagogy. My first book, entitled Disability Rhetoric, was published with Syracuse University Press in 2014. Academic Ableism: Disability and Higher Education was published with Michigan University Press in 2017 and is available in an open-access version online. Disabled Upon Arrival: Eugenics, Immigration, and the Construction of Race and Disability was published in 2018 with Ohio State University Press. I am the Founding Editor of the Canadian Journal of Disability Studies.
