DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED\n\nFifth MAD MONDAY Challenge:\nMindfulness Challenge
 \nThe College of Arts is thrilled to announce a pilot project called the S
 tudent Experience Design Lab (SXD Lab). Supported by UFV’s Fund for Inno
 vative Teaching\, the SXD Lab is developing real-life student-led learning
  opportunities with a focus on innovation\, career development\, creativit
 y and collaboration.\n\nThe first learning opportunity to come out of the 
 SXD Lab is a series of MAD MONDAY Challenges.\n\nWhat is a MAD MONDAY Chal
 lenge?\nIn interdisciplinary teams of four\, students will develop and pre
 sent a solution to a specific challenge in less than seven hours. The winn
 ing team will be awarded a grand prize valued at $500 and a Letter of Reco
 mmendation from the Associate Dean of Students (Dr. Linda Pardy). In addit
 ion\, each participant will receive a $100 honorarium.\nFor these challeng
 es\, we are seeking student leaders who are action-oriented and well organ
 ized.\n\nPlease submit your team nominations to Elise Goertz (Internship a
 nd Practicum Coordinator) in the College of Arts\, Deans’ Office via ema
 il: elise.goertz@ufv.ca.\n\nMAD MONDAY Challenge - Mindfulness Challenge\n
 \nFor this Mad Monday Challenge\, student teams will be asked to submit a 
 Mindfulness project &amp\; event proposal. It must include strategies to p
 romote experiential mindfulness activities on-campus to help UFV students 
 directly experience the benefits of mindfulness in their mind and body.\n\
 nTypical benefits include:\n1. Reducing overall stress and anxiety and inc
 reasing well-being\n2. Improving focus for assignments and tests\n3. Enhan
 cing creativity to think of new ideas and try new things\n4. Improving lis
 tening and communication skills for classes\, presentations and relationsh
 ips\n5. Increasing emotional resilience to better handle the roller coaste
 r moments of life\n\nParticipants will start the challenge by attending an
  one-hour Mindfulness presentation where they will learn about the applica
 tions of mindfulness through direct experience.\n\nAfter the presentation 
 participants will be asked the following:\n1. Do you feel better or worse 
 after experiencing mindfulness?\n2. Do you feel that it is important for s
 tudents to experience mindfulness?\n\nStudents will then have approximatel
 y 5 hours to put together their Mindfulness project &amp\; event proposal.
  Within this proposal\, student teams must address:\nThe importance of Min
 dfulness\no What do the experts say?\no Mindfulness and student reliance: 
 what is the link?\n\nThe promotion of Mindfulness on campus\no Effective c
 ommunication strategies\no Introducing the concept of of the mindfulness t
 o students and faculty\no Bridging learning with mindfulness\no Identify p
 artnerships that can assist in the promotion of the mindfulness concept on
  campus\n\nIdeas for engaging with Mindfulness\no How do we give students 
 the opportunity to experience mindfulness in their bodies for the first ti
 me?\no Options for different student mindfulness exercises &amp\; events\n
 o Event idea &amp\; event plan/proposal\n\nLunch and dinner provided.\n\nA
