SUMMARY:Opening reception: Shared Vessels: The Architecture of Collective R
 ituals
DESCRIPTION:Opening reception: Shared Vessels: The Architecture of Collecti
ve Rituals\nShared Vessels: The Architecture of Collective Rituals\nOpenin
 g reception: Thursday November 20th\, 2025\, 3:00pm\nOn view: November 20t
h – December 5th\n\nThe University of the Fraser Valley’s School of Cr
eative Arts (SoCA) is proud to present Shared Vessels. Based in the critic
al frameworks of Nicolas Bourriaud’s “Relational Aesthetics” and Cla
ire Bishop’s subsequent critique\, Shared Vessels presents work by Profe
ssional Skills for Visual Artists students\, under the guidance of Dr. Can
dace Couse\, that transforms viewers into essential collaborators. The exh
ibition explores a central question: does meaningful connection arise from
harmony or from friction? Moving beyond static objects\, the show creates
architectures for collective ritual\, challenging you to complete the wor
ks through your physical and critical engagement.\n\nSome pieces function
as participatory “micro-utopias\,” modeling a more connected world thr
ough shared\, harmonious encounters. In direct dialogue\, others embrace a
ntagonism to challenge us\, exposing the boundaries and exclusions inheren
t in community. Together\, these works investigate the very nature of soci
al experience\, creating a living laboratory for collective emotion\, refl
ection\, and debate. Your participation is the final element of the artwor
k\, making this exhibition an active space where the true crime is passivi
ty.\n\nThe exhibition opens on November 20th at the S’eliyemetaxwtexw Ar
t Gallery\, located on the UFV Abbotsford campus\, and runs through until
December 5th.\n\nAn opening reception will be held on November 20th at 3:0
0 pm in the gallery. All are welcome to attend\, and admission is free.\n\
