DESCRIPTION:\n\nWe welcome back to UFV our 2015 honorary doctorate recipien
 t Dr. Catherine Hickson\n\nDr. Catherine Hickson’s life began in Albert
 a — a far cry from towering peaks\, floating icebergs\, and exploding v
 olcanoes. If you asked\, she would be the first to admit her life has evol
 ved far differently than she envisioned. In fact\, she didn’t really “
 follow her dreams”\, they followed her! A curious mind and an interest i
 n the natural world provided twists and turns that evolved into an adventu
 rous life.\n\nAn eyewitness to the May 18\, 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helen
 s\, this devastating\, almost instantaneous destruction of a vast area foc
 used Hickson's attention on understanding the destructive forces of volcan
 oes. Since then\, her work has taken her from the Arctic sea to the polar 
 opposite\; the frozen continent of Antarctica. From the extreme altitude a
 nd aridness of the Andes to the barren slopes of erupting volcanoes. An un
 derlying theme in her studies has been the investigation of how the massiv
 e forces of moving tectonic plates have created unique environments.\n\nCo
 me join Dr. Hickson in this exploration of the destructive regions of our 
 planet and the earth forces that create such unique environments.\n\nAbbot
