DESCRIPTION:All are invited as part of #SikhHeritageMonth celebrations to t
 ake part in a film screening of "Press Breaker" followed with a panel disc
 ussion.\n\nThe movie is the true story about Harleen Sidhu\, who was an av
 erage young girl from Surrey\, BC's South Asian dominated Newton neighbour
 hood. She loved her family\, her culture\, and - like many South Asian Can
 adians - she loved the sport of basketball. At the young age of 13\, Harle
 en found herself thrust into the Canadian national spotlight after she led
  her Grade 8 basketball team to an undefeated regular season in 2004\, sho
 rtly after which she was effectively banned from participating in the bigg
 est tournament of her young career. She rallied alongside her school and c
 ommunity to fight the decision\, garnering widespread media attention in t
 he process. The first of many battles over the course of her playing caree
 r\, Harleen went on to play NCAA Division I basketball and came back home 
 for a storybook ending.\n\nThe panel discussion following the film screeni
 ng\, featuring Harleen\, filmmakers\, and moderated by Dr. Sharanjit Kaur 
 Sandhra\, will tackle issues of gatekeeping and racism in University/commu
 nity sport and the ways to overcome systemic barriers.\n\nRefreshments to 
 follow and maybe even some basketball shooting with youth!
