SUMMARY:Provost Lunch and Learn: “Building Pathways Between Programs”
DESCRIPTION:Provost Lunch and Learn: “Building Pathways Between Programs
”\nHosted by Chris Campbell\, Christine Nehring\, Carolyn MacLaren and M
ichelle Rhodes\nThis Provost Lunch and Learn provides an early report and
energetic discussion on the work of The Strategic Initiative Funds (SIF) B
uilding Pathways Between Programs (BP)2 project. The (BP)2 project team ha
s been working on recommendations for how UFV can expand learning pathways
for students who have earned vocational and non-credit credentials at UFV
.\n\nOver its 50-year history\, UFV has graduated more than 50\,000 studen
ts from diverse programs that have served the needs of our communities and
employers. In many of these programs\, students received credentials but
no academic credit for their coursework because these programs were classi
fied as vocational or trades education. When UFV’s vocational and non-cr
edit credentials have been subsequently used in a small number of programs
\, the processes have been confusing\, ad hoc or inconsistent\, poorly und
erstood\, lacking sufficient resources\, and absent transparency within an
d beyond the institution.\n\nUFV’s Integrated Strategic Plan (ISP)—IYA
QAWTWXW\, or House of Transformation— and the Strategic Enrolment Manage
ment (SEM) Plan offer strategic goals by which UFV can enhance its traditi
on as an access institution:\n\n Identify and remove access barriers for
individuals from marginalized and underrepresented groups\n• Provide acc
essible and flexible opportunities to support personalized\, lifelong lear
ning\n• Integrate equity\, diversity\, and inclusion (EDI) into all aspe
cts of our institutional culture\n• Support various pathways that lead t
o the attainment and recognition of students’ educational goals\n\nThis
session provides an overview of the work and specific recommendations on h
ow to increase student mobility between programs of different types and cr
edit structures. At the heart of the recommendations is a call for credit
equity and organizational changes designed to improve system coordination
and supports for returning and non-traditional students. We are looking fo
rward to seeing you at this lunch and learn!\n\nHope to see you online. Ch
ris Campbell\, Program Director\, Program Development &amp\; Quality Assur
 ance.\nContact provost@ufv.ca to register.
