These faculty will discuss a wide variety of issues in cluding: strategic considerations\, human rights\, intelligence\, nuclear weapons\, geopolitics\, and international diplomacy.\nSpeaker Profile:\nDr . Edward Akuffo – is an Associate Professor of International Relations\, and chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of the Fraser Valley\, Abbotsford\, Canada. He is also the immediate Past-Presid ent of International Studies Association\, Canada Branch. Edward is an Adj unct Professor in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of New Bruns wick-Fredericton\, and a member of the University of Waterloo based Defens e and Security Foresight Group. Edward’s research focuses on Canada’s foreign and security policy in Africa\, African Union-NATO interregional s ecurity cooperation\, and maritime security in Africa. His work has appear ed in several academic journals and edited books. He is the author of Cana dian Foreign Policy in Africa: Regional Approaches to Peace\, Security\, a nd Development (Ashgate/Routledge\, 2012).\n\nDr. Hamish Telford - is an A ssociate Professor of political science at the University of the Fraser Va lley. He is the author of Engaging Canadian Politics (Northrose\, 2021)\, and Talking Past Each Other: Quebec and the Federal Dialogue in Canada\, 1 867-2017 (Peter Lang\, 2018). He is a past president of the BC Political S tudies Association\, and he twice served on the board of the Canadian Poli tical Science Association.\n\nDr. Scott Sheffield – is an Associate Prof essor of History at UFV. His research examines Indigenous experiences in t he Second World War\, as well as the impact of the war on British Columbia . He is the author of two academic monographs\, and several book chapters and articles\, including “Canadian First Nations and the British Connect ion during the Second World War”.\n\nLarissa Horne – is the Experienti al Education Coordinator and sessional instructor in the Department of His tory at UFV. Larissa specializes in Russian\, Soviet\, and post-Soviet stu dies with an emphasis on political and cultural history. Her additional ar eas of teaching include geopolitics in the Cold War era\, post-Communist E urasia\, and the subjects of global security and secret intelligence. As t he Experiential Education Coordinator\, Larissa develops community-engaged learning opportunities locally and internationally\, contributing to adja cent pedagogies\, and has recently authored "The Soft Power of In-class Re flection: A Transformative Experience" in The Journal of Higher Education Theory and Practice\, Vol. 21 (3)\, 2021 (North American Business Press)\, and "CityStudio Abbotsford: A model for innovative Work-Integrated Learni ng\, civic engagement\, and professional development\," in The Practice of Co-op and Work-Integrated Learning in the Canadian Context (CEWIL Canada &\; WACE\, 2021).\n\nDr. Mark Kersten – is an Assistant Professor of Criminology at UFV. His research and teaching at UFV focus on internationa l and Canadian law as well as justice for human rights &\; political vi olence. In addition to his academic duties\, Mark is a Senior Consultant w ith the Wayamo Foundation and the founder of the blog Justice in Conflict. He is the author of Justice in Conflict – the Effects of the Internatio nal Criminal Court’s Interventions on Ending Wars and Building Peace (Ox ford University Press\, 2016).\n\nDr. Sebastian Huebel – is a Limited Te rm Appointee in the Department of History at UFV. His research looks at Mo dern Germany and Europe\, as well as German and Jewish history. He is the author of Fighter\, Worker and Family Man: German-Jewish Men and their Gen dered Experiences in Nazi Germany\, 1933-1941 (University of Toronto Press \, 2021).
