150 Acts of Reconciliation for Canada’s 150<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n

On August 4th, there are 150 days left in 2017 \u2013 the year of Canada\u2019s 150th birthday. There have been robust discussions this year around reconciliation and we would like to contribute to the conversation. Together, we have written 150 Acts of Reconciliation for the last 150 days of 2017. Many of these are small, everyday acts that average Canadians can undertake, but others are more provocative that encourage people to think about Indigenous-settler relationships in new ways. We encourage you to use #150Acts to share your engagement with each item on the list.<\/p>\n

Thank you to\u00a0the volunteers who helped, everyone who attended, and the 273 people who filled out the survey…simply amazing!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

UFV\u2019s Accessibility Committee held open houses last week to gather information regarding accessibility in people\u2019s lives. Survey stations were set up at the Abbotsford and CEP campuses gathering 273 responses from students, faculty and staff. The survey supports the call from the BC government to gain feedback on accessibility issues in the province. BC is one of the few provinces in the country that doesn\u2019t have comprehensive laws to support accessibility for persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n

With support from SPARC BC<\/strong><\/a>, who works to advance accessibility and inclusion by conducting important research and public education campaigns, UFV was granted $2,000 to conduct the information gathering sessions. Accessible communities make a real difference in the lives of people with disabilities; it is not just about physical access and technical devices\u2014access is about equitable opportunity. Accessible communities are more inclusive.<\/p>\n

Last week, UFV announced the creation of the Centre for Experiential and Career Education along with a generous grant from the RBC Future Launch program.<\/p>\n

The University of the Fraser Valley wants to ensure that all students have the chance to integrate career-related planning and experience into their education. Faculty members can set up a Turnitin assignment where students can submit papers several times up to the assignment deadline. Once the deadline arrives, the assignment currently submitted is the final version. By allowing students to see the originality report prior to final submission, students can ensure their papers are not plagiarized.\u00a0(Proper set up of the assignment is required as paper titles, bibliographies, and common phrases can be highlighted as plagiarized text.
