On Thursday, Oct 9 (9:30–11 am, B101 Abbotsford campus), UFV students will have a unique opportunity to hear from leading voices in human rights and peacebuilding.
No previous registration is required.
This panel discussion features:
Alex Neve – 2025 Massey Lecturer and former Secretary General of Amnesty International Canada.
Adam Gaudry – Interim Dean of Native Studies, University of Alberta.
Dr. Kirsten Van Houten – UFV Assistant Professor, School of Social Justice and Global Stewardship.
Together, they co-edited Hand-in-Hand? Canada at the Human Rights and Peacebuilding Nexus (2024), a book that critically examines Canadian policy and practice on human rights and peacebuilding.
At this panel, the editors and contributors will share insights from their chapters and reflect on what has changed in Canada’s human rights and peacebuilding landscape since the book’s publication in 2024.

- Canadian foreign policy and peace operations
- Indigenous perspectives on human rights and governance
- International justice and corporate accountability
- The challenges of balancing ambition with domestic priorities
