Elrick, Czaga, and Fernandes at the UFV Bookstore
Come drink free coffee and soak up the words of Michelle Elrick, Kayla Czaga, and Raoul Fernandes on April 3rd at 2:30! Hosted by Rob Taylor, UFV instructor and poet, and Jordan Abel, UFV’s 2017 Kuldip Gill Fellowship Writer in Residence.
Michelle Elrick is the author of To Speak (The Muses’ Company, 2010). Her poetry has appeared in Contemporary Verse 2, Event, Poetry Is Dead and on CBC television and she was a finalist in the CBC Poetry Prize in 2015. then/again is Elrick’s second collection of poetry. She lives and writes in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Kayla Czaga grew up in Kitimat and now lives in Vancouver, BC, where she recently earned her MFA in Creative Writing at UBC. In 2016, she received the Emerging Writer Award from the Canadian Authors Association. Her poetry, non-fiction and fiction has been published in The Walrus, Best Canadian Poetry 2013, Room Magazine, Event and The Antigonish Review, among others. For Your Safety Please Hold On is her first book.
Her debut book, For Your Safety Please Hold On, was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award (2015), the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize (2015), and the Debut-litzer Prize (2015), and it won the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award. (2015)
Raoul Fernandes has been writing poetry since childhood, and is involved in both online and offline writing communities. He completed the Writer’s Studio at Simon Fraser University in 2009. He was a finalist for the 2010 Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers, and winner of the 2010 Sakura Award at the Vancouver International Cherry Blossom Festival. His poetry collection Transmitter and Receiver (Nightwood Editions) was the 2016 winner of the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize for BC Books and the Late Night Library’s 2016 Debut-litzer Prize in Poetry. His poem “After Lydia” was recently adapted into a short film. He lives and writes in Vancouver, BC.
