President’s Leadership Lecture Series with Dr. Robby Zidny
On September 28, UFV will welcome Dr. Robby Zidny, the 2025 recipient of the SEAMEO-Jasper Research Award, to campus as part of his dissemination tour in Canada.
UFV was invited by the BC Council for International Education (BCCIE) to host Dr. Zidny, whose award recognizes emerging scholars whose research contributes to social development in Southeast Asia and encourages collaboration and knowledge exchange between Southeast Asian and Canadian researchers.
Dr. Zidny’s award-winning research, Science and Chemistry Education Innovation through the Integration of Indigenous Knowledge, explores how Indigenous knowledge can be integrated into science and chemistry education. His visit comes at a particularly meaningful time, as we approach National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30. It provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of Indigenous ways of knowing and the value of creating space for knowledge systems to come together through respectful learning and exchange.
Following Dr. Zidny’s presentation, a panel discussion facilitated by Dr. Stefania Pizzirani, Associate Director of UFV’s Food and Agriculture Institute, will bring together Dr. Zidny, Swelchalot Dr. Shirley Hardman, AVP, Xwexwílmexwawt, and Dr. Daryl Smith, Director, UFV International. The conversation will explore these ideas through a One Health lens, considering how our health and well-being are interconnected with one another, our communities and the environments in which we live. It is also a wonderful example of the kind of knowledge exchange and collaboration that can help us think differently about some of the complex challenges facing our world.
