Planting UFV’s Shakespeare Reconciliation Garden
Join us in the fresh air to install UFV’s Shakespeare Reconciliation Garden at CEP (off Givenchy Road, between the Kinesiology wing and the Gathering Place)! This garden revives and reimagines UFV’s former Shakespeare garden. It features many indigenous plants. The garden aims to create a space of beauty, healing, and contemplation–a space for quiet enjoyment and a space to reflect on reconciliation, particularly between Settler Canada and Indigenous Peoples, but also more broadly, to include the everyday ways that we acknowledge past wrongs, stop, and make amends.
June 14th– 2 to 5:30 p.m.–rock border installation
June 16th–2 to 6 p.m.–planting
June 18th–2 to 5 p.m.–planting
June 21st–National Indigenous Peoples Day–2 to 6 p.m.–wood chip mulching.
Please dress for the weather, wear close-toed shoes or boots (steel toe if available) and bring your own a water bottle and snacks, as well as work gloves and a garden trowel (labelled with your name) if you have them. Please follow provincial COVID safety guidelines–wear a mask, maintain distance, and do not come to campus if you are feeling ill.
Looking forward to gathering and planting together!
