There has never been a more important time to weave advocacy skills into your curriculum and services.
You may have heard of about all the policy changes from the IRCC regarding international student visas and work permits. You have probably also read about the increasing number of advocacy groups and international student protests across Canada calling attention the many challenges international students are facing. Students may be feeling unseen, unheard, and disconnected.
- How can we create space for their stories?
- How can we work with them to develop the skills they need to navigate the current uncertainty and administrative challenges from our different disciplinary lenses?
In line with UFV’s updated ILOs, which encourage us to develop students’ advocacy skills, we will share our ideas and experiences around building students’ advocacy and self-advocacy skills.
Join Victoria Surtees to discuss topics related to internationalization with an interdisciplinary group of colleagues. From international student experience to study abroad, we will go where community interests take us and hear from guest experts and speakers throughout the year.
Chat-I will take place via Zoom on select Wednesdays:
- Fall: Oct. 9th, Nov. 13th, Dec. 18th
- Winter: Jan. 15th, Feb. 19th, Mar. 19th, Apr. 16th
- Summer: May 14th, June 18th
