Regenerative Sustainability: TLC Fall Forum

Date(s): Monday, October 27 9:45 am - 4:00 pm
Location: Abbotsford Campus

Hosted by the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC), University of the Fraser Valley

Join us for a full day of conversation, reflection, and action around regenerative sustainability—a vision of sustainability that goes beyond “doing less harm” and instead focuses on repairing, restoring, and nurturing thriving ecosystems and communities.

This year’s forum will feature:
Keynote by Dr. Shannon Leddy on Indigenized, Slow, and Sustainable Pedagogies, inspired by her co-authored book Teaching Where You Are: Weaving Indigenous and Slow Principles and Pedagogies (2023).

Indigenized, Slow & Sustainable Pedagogies: This talk will illustrate the ways in which interdisciplinary thinking, a focus on experiential learning, and the thoughtful application of the 4Rs – respect, relevance, reciprocity, and responsibility – can bring us back to the principle of teaching people, not subjects. Working through the quadrants of the Medicine Wheel, we will explore the power of holistic thinking in education, the importance of connecting ourselves and our students with the Land, and the interrelationship of slow approaches and sustainability.
